…The introduction to the opposites

Not all the words I collect are exotic syllables consigned to the vault of time. Some are ordinary words in which I’ve discovered a new or interesting turn. Blunt is one of those words.

Blunt:

1. having an edge or point that is not sharp

2. abrupt in speech or manner; being straight to the point

3. slow or deficient in feeling; obtuse

I find it interesting that as a physical weapon, blunt is gentler and safe, but when blunt refers to words, it means the harshest form of speech. There must be a variation on the theme of, “The pen is mightier than the sword”, but I can’t think of one yet.
